My Review of Palm Trees in the Pyrenees by Elly Grant

My Review:

Palm Trees in the Pyrenees is a delightful and light hearted read by Elly Grant, it's the first in a series and I look forward to reading them all.

Danielle, the only an unappreciated police officer in a small town in the Pyrenees   discovers her chance to shine after an odious English man is murdered. It's a first person biased narrative and I enjoyed the dramatic irony of knowing Danielle's innermost worries and desires, or some of them anyway. In a postmodernist way she seems to be aware of our presence and reveals to the reader only what and when she chooses to. Danielle may be thirty years of age but in many ways  Palm Trees in the Pyrenees is a coming of age tale as she gradually grows into her true self over the course of the story.

Grant evokes like in a small Pyrenean town with aplomb, I loved the antithesis of idyllic spa town with a sordid underbelly of murder, homophobia and sexism.
